Projects Families Against Mandatory Minimums Foundation: Capacity-Building And Strategic Planning The Families Against Mandatory Minimums (FAMM) Foundation is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1991 by attorneys, judges, criminal justice experts, and the families of inmates in response to the excessive penalties triggered by mandatory minimum sentencing policies. The Open Society Institute (Soros Foundation) offered FAMM an opportunity to reflect on its interim and long-term goals and strategies and consider ways of strengthening its own capacity to achieve the intended outcome of repealing mandatory minimums. CAPD was asked by FAMM to help them analyze what it will take to achieve FAMM's long-term goals, based on its experience to date; review the extent to which current strategies align with the results of these analyses; review the extent to which FAMM's resources (effort, attention, money) are focused on strategic priorities; and explore potential next steps, including realignment of strategies and resources, where possible and appropriate.
